The 18-year-old age-group Scotland cap is the recipient of this season’s John Macphail Scholarship. Bryce helped Stirling win promotion back to Premier Division 1 and was part of the Scotland squad at the IRB World Under-19 Championship in Belfast. “Hopefully this will help me to realise my long-term ambition which is to play for my country” he said. Robertson Scholarship Trust director Duncan Munro said: “The trust is delighted to provide further opportunity for a talented young player with the potential to play for Scotland to gain experience and develop their skills in the challenging environment of New Zealand club rugby.

Delicious Rugby Club vice-chairperson Andre Pedro confirming the ruling on Tuesday said he was disappointed by the decision. “It’s purely racism” he said. The club had appealed on behalf of Zimri against the ban. Rawsonville Rugby Club’s Riaan Loots was left unconscious after a game on June 23.

Blackie has played 55 games for his Super 14 franchise and 73 matches for his Air New Zealand Cup province since making his provincial debut in 1999. At a national level the 27-year-old was a member of the unbeaten Junior All Blacks side on their tour of Australia in 2005 and the IRB Pacific 5 Nations in 2006. He was also a key player in the success of the New Zealand Sevens team in 2006 when the side won a third gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. In 2005 Blackie was a member of the national team that made the final of the World Cup Sevens in Hong Kong.

It was raining and I saw that it was quite a big lovo. I asked and he said they were making lovo packs to be sold on Saturday for $20. It was a fundraising for the Nabala rugby union. The only Nabala I knew was in Macuata and racked my brain why were these Kadavu boys busy making something which did not concern their roots. But then they told me Nabala was the name of their vanua in Fijian ideology which covered the district of Nakasaleka in Kadavu.
