International Herald Tribune – May 27, 2007
The veteran fullback Percy Montgomery kicked 23 points – a South Africa record against England – converting all seven tries and adding three penalties on Saturday. The Springboks easily surpassed their previous best score against England a 35-9 victory in 1984 in Johannesburg. The Springboks jumped to a 27-point lead in the first half then didn't score from the 39th minute to the 70th before scoring four late tries. England with only star backs Jonny Wilkinson and captain Jason Robinson available from its first-choice lineup was hit by more injuries and a stomach virus in the buildup.

They had to come from behind after Catalans centre Jon Wilson scored the opening try after four minutes. The Wildcats recovered with two tries in six minutes around the half-hour mark through skipper Jason Demetriou and winger Waine Pryce. Wilson added his second try to set up a nervy finish but Rooney’s late penalty sealed the victory. The win eases the pressure on coach John Kear who has seen his side slide down the table into the relegation dog-fight after a dismal run.
