The Navy Canberra Vikings were launched today at the HMAS Canberra Memorial at Lake Burley Griffin with head coach Nick Scrivener and players Saia Faingaa Francis Fainifo and Peter Kimlin arriving courtesy of the Australian Navy Dive Team on a rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB). Scrivener who has held the position of CA Brumbies assistant coach since 2005 says he’s looking forward to the challenge of leading the Navy Canberra Vikings through the ARC. “While the exact make-up of the squad is yet to be finalised we have no doubt that we will be very competitive during the ARC” he said. “We’re expecting to combine players with Wallaby experience and several established Brumbies with some of Australia’s best rising stars.

Strettle spent several days in a Johannesburg hospital for rehydration treatment after contracting an airborne stomach virus that swept through the tourists last week. He was discharged over the weekend but he was not fit enough to be in contention for the second Springboks clash this weekend. Strettle’s name is thus added to Gloucester pair Iain Balshaw (shin) and Nick Wood (torn chest muscle) both of whom have already returned home from the ill-fated tour. England captain Jason Robinson meanwhile says he will be fit for the weekend despite missing training in Centurion on Tuesday and Jonny Wilkinson trained as usual as did Andy Farrell and Peter Richards who also fell foul of the stomach bug.
