More significantly it could herald a new era in every sense of the word for Bok rugby and crush 100 years of white dominance of the jersey. The match will also be the first match in charge for the new Springbok coach expected to be Emerging Boks coach Peter de Villiers. And for the first time ever black African and coloured players could outnumber their white counterparts in the starting XV. The Weekend Argus on Saturday revealed South African rugby’s plan to “Africanise” the sport at the highest level by way of a black coach and a starting XV largely made up of black African and coloured players. Argentina set for rugby World Cup boost from French breeding ground
Turkish Press – Jun 12, 2007
Argentina have been drawn alongside France and Ireland in the World Cup group phase – the archetypal Group of Death – and with only two teams guaranteed to progress to the second round the hard-nosed Argentinians will be no pushover for two of Europe’s heavyweights. Pumas coach Marcelo Loffreda will have some rich pickings for his squad for the World Cup with a bevvy of players plying their trade at the top of European rugby’s top leagues. The final of the French championships last weekend featured no fewer than seven Argentinian players – Stade Francais half-back pairing Juan Hernandez and Agustin Pichot – one of Stade’s late tryscorers – Clermont No 8 Gonzalo Longo and four front-row forwards in Martin Scelzo Rodrigo Roncero and the Ledesma brothers Pedro and Mario. Four others played in the semi-final stages – Toulouse forward Patricio Albacete Biarritz centre Martin Gaitan outside-half Marcelo Bosch and flanker Manuel Carizza – and at least another handful could have appeared were it not for injury.

HYA to focus on rugby transformation
News24.com – Jun 12, 2007
Since unity in 1992 the competition in WP Rugby was never assessed to keep track with the progress of clubs and schools. Clubs and schools were assimilated in the former traditional WP fixtures. The concerns that were raised in the discussion was the spiral of violence in club and school rugby; the concern of racial tension because of the lack of integration; the impact of professionalism at club level; the lack of a development programme to finally integrate and draw clubs and school teams in the highest league; the unhealthy practice of poaching players from primary school level right up to club level; and the negative impact on the game in the township schools because of a lack of funding and facilities. The transformation steering committee will focus on a plan with the key on transformation integration and the creation of opportunities for top players in a special transformation league.
