“We issued a statement on Monday wherein we stated our position and we stand by that” said SA Rugby MD Jonathan Stones. “We are in discussion with our partners and a teleconference is scheduled for sometime tomorrow (Wednesday) morning where after we might be in a position to comment further. The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) are so incensed with the South African decision that they are considering the option of replacing the Test against the Boks on July 7 with another Test against New Zealand.

Pic: Brett Costello Panthers let Gower go GallicJune 26 2007PENRITH has agreed to release star halfback Craig Gower from the final two years of his NRL contract to join French rugby union club Bayonne from 2008. Gower met with Panthers coach Matthew Elliott yesterday and told him he wanted an early release. A formal request was made by his manager Greg Willett this morning with the Panthers agreeing in principle to release the former Australia and New Sotuh Wales halfback from his current deal. The request will be put to the Penrith board at its regular meeting tomorrow. Gower will play out the rest of this season for the Panthers.

The slaughter in the final quarter of the game exposed a South African side that had grown tired not only in the game itself but through the many battles that preceded this vital match. The All Blacks simply looked a lot fresher and the tactic to wait as long as possible and then attack the beleaguered Boks worked like a bomb.
