Three former SMUS backfield stars — Ed Fairhurst Mike Pyke and David Spicer — are among the 32 players named to Team Canada for the World Cup. The travelling squad to France will consist of 30 players with the final two cuts yet to be made. A total of nine Island players have been picked among the final 32 including Nathan Hirayama of the UVic Vikes who at age 19 is the youngest player selected.

Cash for injured rugby man stolen

Some of the money had been collected for Bryan Davies a local man who was paralysed during a rugby match earlier this year. Police are appealing to anyone who has information to contact them. Between 12pm and 6pm on Saturday June 30 the cash was stolen from the Plas Coch Hotel. Included in the cash was money raised for the Bryan Davies appeal.
