EA celebrates Rugby World Cup with release of Rugby 08

comElectronic Arts Inc. will celebrate the 2007 Rugby World Cup with the launch of EA SPRTS Rugby 08 the event’s only officially licensed video game featuring reigning Player of the Year Richie McCaw captain of the New Zealand All Blacks as its cover star. EA SPRTS Rugby 08 will ship to stores worldwide on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system on July 17 in time for the real-world tournament kick off.

n the Sydney-Christchurch flight the pilot took much pleasure in welcoming the Springbok “A” team on board. It’s not clear whether the good pilot meant it as a joke or he was innocently reflecting what the local media had made the populace to believe it did not matter much to us. In fact everybody laughed the announcement off for various reasons. We have all regarded it as joke.

Brian Ashton is the man charged with rescuing some pride after Andy Robinson’s disastrous reign and there were signs during this year’s Six Nations and August thrashing of Wales that they are on the right track. For one the heroic Jonny Wilkinson is back from injury at fly-half and his goal kicking is still a class apart. If the volatile backline pulls together then the team could produce the sort of free-flowing game Ashton promised. With the likes of wily veterans Andy Farrell Mike Catt and the quicksilver Jason Robinson in the mix allied with the talented young guns anything is possible.

The 32-year-old Wallabies and Brumbies stand-off was understood to have turned down several offers from England and France in order to join Edinburgh after this summer’s World Cup. However after the spat between Edinburgh and the SRU escalated recently doubts were cast over the transfer which Carruthers dispelled. Last week Larkham’s agent claimed he would be “seeking assurances” although the player later said he would be honouring his contract. Carruthers confirmed: “He [Larkham] is contracted to Edinburgh and he is an Edinburgh player.
