Erasmus and his lawyer met with Jonathan Stones the SA Rugby MD and Andy Marinos manager of National Teams. The outcome of the meeting is that SA Rugby will allow Erasmus to start with his WP Rugby duties with immediate effect. WP Rugby on Friday announced the appointment of Erasmus as Senior Professional Coach. Erasmus joined the Springboks’ coaching staff earlier in the year as a consultant (technical adviser).

ARU Managing Director & CE John ’Neill A announced the 30-man squad at the annual John Eales Medal Dinner in Brisbane last night. Stirling Mortlock celebrated a fine winter Test campaign by being named captain of the team while George Gregan and Phil Waugh will share the vice-captaincy in France. Wallabies Coach John Connolly said Mortlock’s nomination for the captaincy at the World Cup was testament to his on-field leadership throughout the 2007 season. “Stirling embraced the captaincy role during the Tri Nations and really led from the front with his performances on the field” said Connolly.

Rugby: Kenya plays Uganda again

Uganda beat Kenya 16-0 in the first match. The Kenyan team manager liver Kituyi however cried foul saying the Ugandans had fielded over age players whom they had spotted in Morocco last year. The championship has been reduced to a two-team affair after Madagascar and Cote d'Ivoire pulled out. The Kenya team is expected back home Wednesday.

Kiwi rugby legend Rush to visit Malaysia

Rush arguably one of the greatest sevens players will be making his appearance at the tournament to support rugby and also to meet fans. RSC sports club vice president Karu Selvaratnam said Rush was regarded as a skilful winger and made regular appearances spanning for 17 years for the New Zealand sevens team. His presence would definitely make the two-day tournament more exciting and interesting he added. “He won’t be playing in the tournament but he will be here to support rugby and also to meet his fans” said Karu.

Uganda scales rugby heights

Uganda followed up last Sunday’s 16-0 victory over Kenya with a 13-10 win over the same opponents and will be promoted to Group 1 of the same competition. Uganda played in Group 2 (U-18) and will next year compete in Group 1 (U-19) whose winner gets a slot at the U-19 IRB World Cup. Wakabi made an unconverted try his second in the tournament to give Uganda a 5-0 early lead before Brian Kikawa made the second for a 10-0 lead. Joel Anguyo kicked in a penalty to give the hosts a 13-0 halftime lead.
