Scotland made a bright start and took the lead with a Chris Paterson penalty but Percy Montgomery levelled and South Africa thereafter took control. Bryan Habana found a gap following a scrum Jaque Fourie capitalised on more space then Fourie du Preez added a third try after intense pressure. Montgomery converted all three and added a second-half penalty. Kelly Brown and Dave Callam had come in for Ally Hogg and Simon Taylor as Scotland coach Frank Hadden shuffled his back-row options.

Christchurch has many things but it does not boast the sort of glitzy lively nightlife found in Auckland. By all accounts the All Blacks lock is something of a live-wire on and off the rugby field. He does not mind pushing the boundaries or testing the temperament of others. When the Blues sent him home before the Super 14 semi-final in Durban it was obvious he had sparked up its management once too often.

Rugby: Unlucky Pumas determined to put group of death to sword
New Zealand Herald – Aug 25, 2007
But it is not all doom and gloom for Argentina. They have won four of their last five Tests against France – their only defeat a narrow one in Paris in November – and they did a double over Ireland in home Tests earlier this year winning 22-20 in Santa Fe and 16-0 in Buenos Aires. The big difference for Argentina is that they now have probably their most potent blend of youth and experience with the likes of Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe and Juan Manuel Leguizamon joining stalwarts such as Augustin Pichot Felipe Contepomi and Juan Martin Hernandez. And in coach Marcelo Loffredo they have a shrewd tactician who has already been poached by English side Leicester once his World Cup adventure is over. Loffredo is confident his team can cause a bang in the competition. “It is extremely hard as both France and Ireland are at the peak of their games” he said in a recent Rugby World interview. “But we are confident that we can arrive in Paris and put them to the sword.

Fiji Times – Aug 25, 2007
The tournament conducted by the FRU over a period of one week when outer island teams compete to become the Island Zone Champions. Fiji Rugby Union development officer and championship match commissioner Joeli Tubu said compared to previous years there has been a “great improvement” in the standard of rugby played. “The level of competition has gone to a new level especially the structure and the way the players handle themselves on the field” Tubu said. “I think the development work of the Fiji Rugby Union officials is paying dividends and we must congratulate them.
