Italy in its first match since losing to Argentina in June controlled the first half and led 22-7 at the break. However Japan offered more resistance in the second half and trailed by only 10 points with 13 minutes to play. Then two converted tries secured Italy's fourth victory over the Cherry Blossoms in as many meetings. “It was an interesting contest the first game at international level after a period of intense training” Italy coach Pierre Berbizier said.

Dwyer was recommended by Geoff Lawson Pakistan’s new head coach and both will take up their roles next week. "We adevertised for a trainer for our team and Dwyer suited our requirements perfectly" said Pakistan director of operations Zakir Khan. "He is a well known rugby trainer in Australia and we have signed him on a two-year contract just like Lawson. "Dwyer replaces Murray Stephenson whose contract was not renewed following the World Cup in the Caribbean earlier this year.
