The Institute of Technology in conjunction with the Leinster Branch and the IRFU launched the BA Sport and Exercise (Rugby) course amid great cheer and applause from all the guests who turned out to witness its inception. There was a distinct air of excitement at the launch of the the three-year course which will begin in September as people realised the potential value of this course both to Irish rugby and to Carlow sport. The Leinster Branch executives and the IRFU top brass were genuinely delighted with this new development for Irish rugby. This course will provide a second rugby academy for the province to go with the one already established in UCD.

With the help of rising sophomores Connor McCarthy and Will Fitzmaurice rugby became a club sport. After much hard work and anticipation the club was able to play in its first match ever against Greenwich High School’s freshman team. ne of the Wave club rugby coaches Middlesex teacher Russ Caruso was one of the founding members of the GHS rugby team. It took only a few seasons of club play before the Cardinals were able to compete at the varsity level.
