It is not a view widely shared by followers of this tournament but to my mind the situation is far from hopeless. The first difficult hurdle has already been negotiated for the England coaches have their selection right. They could not have legislated for the injuries to the two playmakers Jonny Wilkinson and lly Barkley but the rest was in their hands. I think the line-up is spot on.

The appeal committee determined that the judicial officer had made an error in his first instance decision in that he was wrong to find that the player was not at any time during the incident intending to win the ball. As a result the committee reduced the suspension from four to two weeks. However based on feedback from the legal team that represented Burger during both hearings SA Rugby is of the opinion that the equipment used during the first hearing was not satisfactory. It resulted in the Springbok legal team having to use its own more technically advanced equipment during presentation of evidence in the appeal process.

City’s Rugby World Cup ‘botched’

Cardiff Chamber of Commerce has described the marketing of the city and Wales ahead of the 2007 tournament as “a botched opportunity”It added that it feared visitors to the matches would feel unwelcome. But Cardiff Council and the Welsh Assembly Government say the games have formed part of marketing campaigns. Russell Goodway the chief executive of the chamber of commerce made his criticisms ahead of the first World Cup game in the city between Wales and Australia. "This has been four years in the making and we just have not risen to the challenge" Russell Goodway Cardiff Chamber of Commerce.

At home I found my husband on the sofa with a South American friend. They were waiting for the first match of the Rugby World Cup France v Argentina to begin and they were hungry. They demanded meat. So I went out again and walked to my favourite boucherie where I asked for good beef perhaps Argentine.
