The Portuguese 22nd in the world had eagerly awaited their opportunity to meet the world’s top ranked team and they visibly relished the chance to face the haka. Italy had spurned the challenge when they met the All Blacks and conceded a try within two minutes but Portugal held out twice as long before Rokocoko scythed through to score.

A row broke out after it was revealed the last train to London after the 6 ctober evening match would leave 30 minutes after kick-off. Network Rail said that three trains would now run after the game. n Saturday hundreds of fans heading for the Wales-Australia game at the Millennium Stadium were left waiting at Bristol Parkway as trains were full. The issue of lack of trains after the 6 ctober quarter final in Cardiff was raised by politicians who claimed it would damage the city’s reputation as a sporting destination.

For women a far-reaching first in sports By Joe JulianoInquirer Staff Writer When fans show up today in the parking lot at Lakeside Field in Charleston Ill. they will follow the normal September Saturday ritual: tailgating waving the colors of their favorite teams and watching a contact sport involving an oblong ball. They will also be witnesses to history. That's because 21 women from West Chester University among others will be part of the first NCAA-sanctioned women's rugby game. The Golden Rams will play Eastern Illinois.

Both teams went into the tournament as favourites to qualify from the Pool thus reaching the quarter finals where either South Africa or England are the probable opponents. The zzies claimed two victories over Wales in the summer. However Welsh coach Gareth Jenkins played down those two rehearsals claiming his team were missing several players. Australia’s World Cup pedigree is immense though having won the tournament twice in 1991 and 1999. They came into the Tournament as 10–1 third favourites and despite the advantage of the Millennium Stadium Wales will start as underdogs.

Two-time champion Australia overcame the passion of a home crowd in Cardiff to defeat Wales 32-20 and is now almost certain to avoid South Africa in the quarterfinals. Ireland was expected to play better after struggling to a 32-17 victory over Namibia. But when Brian ‘Driscoll’s team returned to Bordeaux to face Georgia it played even worse.
