… confirm Jol departure – New Zealand’s source for sport…
stuff.co.nz – Oct 26, 2007
“We can confirm that the board has this evening asked Martin Jol the club manager and Chris Hughton the first team coach to stand down from their positions with immediate effect” the statement read. Jol was in the dugout for his side’s 2-1 home defeat by Spanish club Getafe in the UEFA Cup on Friday but is believed to have met chairman Daniel Levy and other members of the board before the match. The Dutchman took over from Frenchman Jacques Santini and guided Tottenham to consecutive fifth-place finishes in his two full seasons in charge. However the club have made a woeful start to the current campaign winning just once in 10 Premier League matches and sit third from bottom after a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Monday.

TV3 expects to break even on Rugby World Cup costs
stuff.co.nz – Oct 26, 2007
Ratings for the semifinals and final would have been higher had the All Blacks made it through but TV3 said it was still pleased with the ratings. TV3 spokesman Roger Beaumont told the New Zealand Herald that it was looking as though the network would break even after it was rumoured to have paid about $10 million for the exclusive broadcasting rights. “Given the significance of the event and the profile it’s given the network and the disappointing performance of the All Blacks that’s a really pleasing outcome” he said. “We were very happy with the ratings until the All Blacks dropped out of the tournament – particularly the live games.
