And last-minute hopefuls who are hoping to obtain tickets for the match will find they are changing hands for astonishing amounts – currently as much as R60 000 as rugby fever sweeps the nation. Tickets on the black market are going for umpteen times their face value. While the International Rugby Board set the price for a ticket to the Rugby World Cup final at €341 (about R3 240) popular auction site eBay is offering them for about R50 000.

The 25-year-old Nonu who has played 18 tests for New Zealandwas dropped from the All Blacks for this year’s Tri-Nations and theRugby World Cup. He announced his desire to switch to rugby league and wasbelieved to be close to signing with the Wests Tigers. However Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell said onTuesday night that Nonu had told them he had decided to stay inrugby union with the Wellington Hurricanes. Nonu would have been the perfect replacement for centre PaulWhatuira who has joined Huddersfield.

The project has been a year in the making and is an extremely positive step for the development of rugby in the county. It aims to establish a quality structure that provides a pathway and opportunity for the playing of rugby football at all levels within the Donegal area. The DCRP brings together the four rugby clubs in the region the schools and the local community providing opportunities for people in the county to be positively involved in the growth of rugby in their community. As a result of the project there are now three Development fficers working in the area compared to just one in previous years. Jonathan Llewhellin who has been the Development fficer for Donegal for the past three years will become the Community Rugby Development fficer (Donegal) and be assisted by Youth Development fficers Shane ‘Neill and Declan Bushell who came into post in August this year.
