President Thabo Mbeki made it clear that he shared the rainbow nation’s joy even though only two of the team’s players were non-white both of them being Coloured as mixed-race South Africans are known. Mr Mbeki even called for the coach Jake White to stay on though reports have buzzed around that he may look for a job elsewhere when his contract expires; he is said to be fed up with political interference. Voices in the ruling African National Congress have called for a more “transformative” approach to team selection: ie more non-whites should be picked. Along with cricket rugby remains a favourite sport of most white South Africans whereas most of their black compatriots prefer football.

Rugby Museum is our big win – Manawatu Standard: local national…
stuff.co.nz – Oct 25, 2007
This week’s announcement that the national rugby museum is staying in Palmerston North and that it’s going to come under the wing of the transformed Te Manawa complex is something to cheer. Some might wonder why we should be cheering that it’s going to cost us a lot of money to keep the same old museum we have anyway but this is one scenario where it’s definitely worth taking a long-term view. There have been more than a few whispers that other city’s were keen to pounce. All it could have taken was a few deals behind doors in the big centres and our prized tourist destination could have been winging north or south “in the national interest”.

There’s more than one way to win a Rugby World Cup
Nelson Mail – The Nelson Mail – Oct 25, 2007
The team’s failure to even get past this month’s World Cup quarterfinals is apparently sufficient evidence for many to suggest that New Zealand should abandon its attacking mindset and settle for a more forward-dominated kicking style of game. Well no way – not a chance – don’t even think about it. The day All Black rugby abandons its free-spirited approach is the day rugby takes a monumental step backwards. Don’t be conned by England’s approach.
