Worst rugby phrases of the year in ascending order of decrepitude: 1: “We nilled them. 3: “Tigers Tigers Tigers” boomed loudly and incessantly by the bloke who sits right behind the press box at Welford Road Leicester’s home. Strongest evidence that rugby as a sport is in decent nick: The reception that greeted England as they marched into Croke Park to play Ireland. Most national newspapers had sent their news reporters to scent out trouble… 3: “Tigers Tigers Tigers” boomed loudly and incessantly by the bloke who sits right behind the press box at Welford Road Leicester’s home. Strongest evidence that rugby as a sport is in decent nick: The reception that greeted England as they marched into Croke Park to play Ireland. Most national newspapers had sent their news reporters to scent out trouble. There wasn’t a hint of any. The English national anthem was given the respect it warrants and when Ireland kicked off the atmosphere turned positively gladiatorial.
