article-tools –> Mark berhardt March 26 2008 11:00pm QUEENSLAND’S rugby union referees have launched a recruitment and education drive to co-incide with the start of the Premier and school seasons. The booming numbers in the overlapping club juniors and schools competitions traditionally puts a major strain on referees numbers which fluctuate in Brisbane from 180 to 220. It has been nothing for referees to handle four or five games a weekend in the peak period. The Queensland Rugby Referees Association is hoping the campaign will attract school age referees and as well as former players wanting to keep in touch with the game. QRRA President Neil McCann said courses would initially be run at all 17 GPS and AIC schools Downlands and some others.
