They have moved to third on the table with the Stormers and Cheetahs to come before they return to Wellington for a date with the increasingly hapless Lions. But this is the Hurricanes. While they can produce the sweetest most pleasurable rugby to watch they can also infest the soul with the sort of mindless rugby the Blues are producing. Cooper admitted inconsistency haunts his side and warned Sunday's match against the Stormers at what is already tipped to be a sold-out Newlands will be "massive". But he was delighted yesterday with how the attack has at last complemented the defence. It needs to be noted the Bulls are a feeble shadow of last year's team but Pretoria is still a hard place to win rugby games and the Hurricanes did so in style. They scored from set phase – with a try to replacement hooker Hikawera Elliot from a lineout drive and one to fullback Cory Jane off a set scrum move.

However there was no sign of the euphoria generated by for example a major rugby victory. At the Parkview Golf Club in Johannesburg Daniel Nathan an acquaintance of Immelman admitted he fell asleep while watching the game on cable television late into Sunday nightThe players were on the “9th or 10th hole and Trevor was three or four shots ahead” Nathan said from behind the steering wheel of his parked white jeep outside the club where he was chatting to a friend. “If I had been awake when he put on that green jacket I would have cried” said Nathan who said he knew Immelman from playing golf as a kid – Nathan’s father was involved in the South Africa’s Sunshine Tour of which Immelman’s father was commissioner – and remembers a “down to earth humble guy. “The club was closed as always on Mondays for maintenance but the manager who came to open the clubhouse to a group of elderly women who walk on the course use the bathroom conveyed the following terse reaction in a note: “Absolutely fantastic.

Walsham bow out of national rugby
BBC News – Apr 14, 2008
The defeat brings to an end the club’s 18-year run in the National League. The Vikings are second-bottom of Division Three South but with one match to go they cannot be saved. Walsham Head Coach Dave Smith told BBC Radio Norfolk: “I apologise from the bottom of my heart for what’s happened this year. It means that North Walsham will return to the London League next season just two years after they came within a point of winning Division Three South but missed out on promotion on the final day of the season.

Friend shock at rugby fan attack
BBC News – Apr 14, 2008
Connacht rugby supporter Paul Newton was in the city for the match against Ulster at Ravenhill on Friday. Mr Newton who lives in Sligo was attacked outside his hotel in Bradbury Place and suffered serious head and facial injuries. His friend said news of the attack came as a shock as Mr Newton is a big man who would be able to defend himself. “It’s such a mystery – he’s a larger-than-life character he’s 6ft 5in and still actively involved in sport” said Shane O’Meara.
