English rugby comes of age on Super Sunday
Telegraph.co.uk – May 17, 2008
Both sides about even then in the great tear trade-off. The setting: Adams Park is not appropriate for a match of this importance but Wasps have lost only twice at home all season against Gloucester and Leicester. Given that Bath have won only one of their last four away games and have not beaten Wasps at Adams Park for three years this dump should provide Wasps with a considerable advantage. The strengths: Bath have the better half-backs and the better front five with Danny Grewcock and Lee Mears in the form of their lives.

Peter Bills: Humphreys deserved more of Ireland’s call
Belfast Telegraph – May 17, 2008
Three Triple Crowns I hear some shout. Big deal is my response. Ireland (and maybe Scotland) are the only rugby playing nations left who place any importance on Triple Crowns. They mean hardly anything in the modern game and I’m astonished Ireland give them so much credence. For a poor struggling team like Scotland with their desperately limited resources I can understand it. For a side with Ireland’s aspirations I am bewildered. It is surely appropriate to remember the talented players O’Gara has had outside him in recent years.

Even after the Blues had edged past fellow countrymen the Hurricanes at Eden Park on Friday the permutations at the top end were still very much in the air pre-kick-off. However the ‘Tahs’ overnight position on the cusp of the knockout stages had left their fate very much in their own hands in Brisbane with all of their knockout rivals cheering on the Reds. But first-half scores from forwards Dean Mumm and Wycliff Palu proved enough for glory while ending the Chiefs’ faint hopes in Durban and also foiling the Reds’ season hurrah. Added to the cog-turning play-off permutations there was also some extra spice thrown into the mix due to Lote Tuqiri downplaying the Reds’ proud party-pooping style – if more bite was needed between these two Australian rivals.
