Weepu's manager Bruce Sharrock confirmed several NRL clubs were interested in the Hurricanes halfback and that there had been offers from overseas. "And we haven't marketed him that hard yet" Sharrock said. Weepu 24 played down his All Blacks aspirations earlier this year saying before the first Super 14 game against the Waratahs that if he enjoyed his rugby he would remain in New Zealand. However those close to him suggest he was waiting to see if he got back in the All Blacks and a contract to play in Europe would now be hard to turn down. It would be more lucrative than his now considerably reduced NZRU deal and more money for less damage than playing league. Masoe's future in New Zealand is also unsure. He had been used by the All Blacks as cover for all three loose forward positions but specialist backup for Richie McCaw now seems required in the form of Auckland's Daniel Braid.

Mr Hastings whose visit will come just a few months after the Rugby World Cup Trophy the William Webb Ellis Cup or “Bill” as it is fondly called visited these islands for the opening for the 2011 Rugby World Cup qualifiers in April. Mr Hastings who amassed 61 international caps for Scotland (20 as Captain) and a total of 667 test points for his country over nine years holds the record for all-time points scored for the Scottish national rugby union team. He also holds points records for the British and Irish Lions (in test matches) with 66 points and for the Watsonians with 1203. With Mr Hastings’s impressive tally of records it is not surprising he held the top position until 2007 for points scored for an individual player in the Rugby World Cup with 227.
