SA Rugby bars Maoris ‘” again
The Times South Africa -
It is an ironic twist to the rugby relations between the two nations. At the height of apartheid the South African government denied All Black teams’ entry to the country if these contained Maoris. nly in 1970 was this rigid policy relaxed to allow in four Maoris players who were part of Brian Lochore’s visiting All Blacks. ne of those players was front-ranker Billy Bush who this week suggested that South Africa’s rugby mandarins accept a Maoris team as a “cultural” side.

French connection
SkySports -
Three of Wasps’ England internationals Riki Flutey James Haskell and Tom Palmer have all agreed big-money deals to join some of France’s biggest clubs who are not affected by the Guinness Premiership salary cap. With clubs unable to compete with the wages on offer across the channel what does the future hold for the game in England? Is it a problem for our domestic league? Rugby stars ’sorry’ for night out
BBC News UK -
The players – Henson Andy Powell Rhys Thomas and Jonathan Thomas – offered “sincere apologies” said the WRU. The four were questioned along with team-mates Lee Byrne and Mike Phillips by team managers about what they were doing in Cardiff city centre on Sunday. Henson in particular apologised to “any member of the public he offended”. All six players were warned about “their various levels of involvement”.

Rugby: Time for rookies to front up
New Zealand Herald New Zealand -
Compare that with the front row the Chiefs will be up against tonight. The names Benn Robinson Tatafu Polota-Nau and Al Baxter wouldn’t exactly strike fear into the hearts of small children but the Tahs front three have combined for 165 Super Rugby and 91 test caps. Each one of them has played more top level rugby on their own than the entire Chiefs’ front row reserves included. The Chiefs might not have given themselves a pass mark for their ultimately unsuccessful efforts against the Crusaders but the hit-out should hold them in good stead for the matches ahead May said.

Former Canadian rugby international Mike Pyke set for Aussie Rules …
The Canadian Press SYDNEY -
Pyke who is six-foot-six and weighs 229 pounds was added to the Swans’ rookie list late last year after the club saw video clips of his exploits on the rugby union pitch. The highlights reel included his long-range intercept try against New Zealand at Hamilton in 2007 when he sprinted 80 yards from inside his own quarter for a score that stunned the famous All Blacks. The 24-year-old from Victoria was selected on Wednesday to play in ruck for the Swans in a pre-season Australian Football League match on Sunday against Port Adelaide at Canberra the Australian capital. The final team was to be announced Thursday with Pyke expected to be named.
