The spreys star who has scored a Welsh record 45 tries in 62 Tests missed last weekend’s victory over England due to an ankle injury suffered in their tournament-opening win against Scotland. But he is back in training ahead of the crucial clash with France in Paris next week. “All last week I had been optimistic about passing my fitness test and playing but I was probably fooling myself” he said. “I had been wearing a cast boot so thought I would be okay but as soon as I started running I knew I had no chance.

” ne player with an obvious source of motivation is fly-half Danny Cipriani. Having scored 21 points in the hard-fought 36-29 victory over Leicester last Sunday the 21-year-old will again aim to press for a place in Martin Johnson’s England squad to face Ireland at Croke Park next Saturday. Following his impressive first start in international rugby against Ireland at Twickenham last year the fly-half has yet to live up to the celebrity hype but Edwards has no fears about individuals becoming bigger than the team. “The more superstars you create the more kids want to pick up a rugby ball and be a rugby player” he added. “”I am a big believer that the more big names we can create in rugby the bigger the game will become.
