Matt Damon is Rugby Rugged
Just Jared
In the Clint Eastwood directed movie Matt plays the role of Francois Pienaar captain of the South African Springboks national rugby team. The movie which also stars Morgan Freeman playing Nelson Mandela spotlights the role of the 1995 Rugby Cup win in post apartheid South Africa. It has also been confirmed that the 37 year old Matt Damon will be working on a fourth Bourne movie. He’ll be teaming up with director Paul Greengrass on an original script.

The Spartan club rugby team came out victorious for the second consecutive weekend with a 20-17 win over Santa Clara University in the final home game of the season on Saturday at the Spartan Stadium East Field. “I think we did well” said SJSU player Rashad Colver. “It came together as a team and that’s one thing we hadn’t done at the beginning of the year but when it happens you see it works. It makes next season look promising. “The Spartan defense held strong in the first half as Santa Clara couldn’t get near the try line to score.

Savannah Morning News
Garry Kennedy said Saturday that he has “a long list for the wife and (two) kids” in County Kildare Ireland. The rugby players’ coach Mick Baldwin already is doing his part to stimulate the economy by shopping at glethorpe Mall. Sibanda Next Rugby Boss
Trading Markets (press release)
Hobson at the helm of the ZRU for two years in his three-year term is not standing for re-election. Former Harare Sports Club rugby chairman Sibanda is likely to be elected unchallenged. Harare Province Rugby Football Board chairman Terry Chambati said the provincial body will hold an emergency general meeting this morning to select their nominations for the ZRU posts. The Harare clubs are expected to unanimously back Sibanda for the union’s top job. Under Hobson Zimbabwe raised their Sevens profile on the IRB circuit and also qualified for last week’s Sevens World Cup in Dubai where they won the Bowl Trophy. But Hobson’s administration has come under serious criticism for its management of the XVs game.
Brisbane Broncos withdraw $1.2m offer to Karmichael Hunt
The Australian
"But we need to secure our roster for next year and the offer we have made Karmichael is a big part of that. " Hunt was philosophical when asked about his future beyond this year declaring he was still discussing options in Australia and abroad – both league and union – with his family and manager. "I played rugby union for a couple of years in school so the chance to possibly go and play in France or Japan is definitely appealing" Hunt said. "We are looking at all those possibilities and at the moment I am not prepared to say I am leaning one way or the other or have any preference for any game or club. "Brisbane is my home and I have been at the Broncos for five years now – since I was 17. My family is here and most of my good friends are here so this isn’t anything to do with me being upset or wanting out. That’s not it at all.
James crowned kings of college rugby once more in Tens
Nouse
They managed to fend off the spirited challenge of Alcuin in the final emerging 19-17 victors in a suitably entertaining finale to an outstanding day?s rugby action featuring all eight colleges. Fatally for Alcuin?s hopes President Paul Guest who had been instrumental in organising the tournament but had suffered a suspected fractured ankle in the day?s opening match skewed a conversion short of the posts when presented with the opportunity to level the final at 19-19 with the game?s last kick. James had established a 19-7 advantage in the second-half courtesy of tries from Raphael Gindre Giles Welford and Ben Ivory but Alcuin refused to surrender and their two late scores had rocked the game. James President Alex Muntus who also had a hand in arranging the tournament said afterwards: ?We?re dead chuffed about winning.
Steyn is a great rugby player ‘” but not at flyhalf
Business Day
Frans Steyn is not a flyhalf; the Cheetahs and Lions should not be playing in the Super 14; and Butch James has to be in the Springbok squad for the Lions series. Steyn must lose his obsession with wanting to be firstly a flyhalf and then a rugby player. As a rugby player he is one of the best in the world. He has a World Cup winners’ medal and a Currie Cup medal and was a losing Super 14 finalist. He got all this before his 21st birthday. The argument that it is downhill from here is strong although Steyn’s future as a rugby player extends beyond titles and statistics.
