It was noticeable how several members of the backroom staff from head coach Ian McGeechan down appeared to define Tuesday’s squad announcement in terms of trying to nullify the assets of the Springboks rather than talking up the qualities of the players chosen just in themselves. South Africa historically one of rugby union’s most successful nations have long been renowned for their imposing forwards. Indeed it was a desire not to be physically dominated that saw the Lions under the captaincy of legendary Ireland lock Willie John McBride develop the inafmous “99″ call in South Africa in 1974 – the first time they won a series against the Springboks. Whenever the call of “99″ was raised all Lions players were expected to attack their nearest opponent on the grounds the referee would not be able to send off the entire team. McGeechan a centre on that unbeaten tour made sure he had a similarly commanding figure as a captain in Martin Johnson when in 1997 he coached the Lions to a 2-1 Test series victory over the Springboks. In opting for Ireland lock Paul ‘Connell as his captain this time around McGeechan is obviously hoping the tactic holds good for a third tour.

It is the biggest fine ever imposed on a British. There was further evidence of that as the League’s operational rules tribunal announced that if Morgan does not pay the necessary £2000 within the next 28 days he will face a ban.

WSU is no exception. It might not be commonly known that the men’s team was ranked as high as 19th in the national rankings. For those that don’t know how to play rugby the game is a mixture of football and soccer.

Exiles have long-running rugby tradition

Alonzo Post-Tribune correspondent. Though today’s Northwest Indiana Rugby Football Club players often speak of those members of the team which was originally founded as the Gary Rustys in 1973 only time will tell what new names will be added to the discussion. In the years after the organization settled in greener (and notoriously harder) pastures — the Hobart Rugby Pitch becoming their home field — the talent pool available to the team has had its ebbs and flows. Achievements such as the team’s back-to-back CARFU 1st division championships in 1988 and 1989 stand in contrast to subsequent years when league wins were hard to come by. Local ruggers have departed to play on college teams many have gotten married and focused on family life while some select-side players have permanently left the region.

jpg” >The evening of March 29 2008 was supposed to be filled with fun for the members of the Bulls rugby team. The Bulls had finished their game at a tournament in Wayne Neb. earlier that day and were preparing for a social event that night. But March 29 2008 was the day Josh Harris then a junior on the rugby team received the phone call from his older brother Jeffery that would turn his world upside turn. Jeffery wouldn’t tell Josh on the phone what happened but Jeffrey told him he needed to come home to Kansas City immediately.
