Rugby player killed in car crash

17-year-old Richard Wilkinson was a passenger in the vehicle which overturned into a field on the A698 Kelso to Jedburgh road near Eckford. He and three friends were returning from a rugby sevens tournament. Police said Mr Wilkinson was pronounced dead at the scene while the three other occupants were treated for minor injuries. It is understood teammates from the Hawick Wanderers club travelling behind in a minibus found the car overturned in a field moments after the accident.
