The royal is a big fan of the sport and has publicly backed the efforts of the English ruling body to stage the tournament. Harry’s message has been posted on the Rugby Football Union’s (RFU) website. Details of the RFU’s bid were presented to the International Rugby Board this week by a delegation that included 2003 Rugby World Cup winners Lawrence Dallaglio and Will Greenwood. With little to gain from their final match of the campaign the Stormers began to assert themselves on the game after the Cheetahs opened the scoring with a try from scrum-half Sarel Pretorius. The Stormers turned possession into points when centre Dylan Des Fountain brushed off a poor tackle by Cheetahs winger Jongi Nokwe to score. Willem de Waal converted and kicked a penalty to take the Stormers ahead though Naas livier levelled the scores with a penalty for the Cheetahs. A try from Pietersen just ahead of halftime gave the Stormers a 17-10 lead after De Waal added the conversion.

The Highlanders were on their way home from a three-loss South African road trip while the Force saw their playoff hopes end last week following a one-point loss to the Stormers in Cape Town. The match marked an exodus of Force players. Wallabies fly-half Matt Giteau and Josh Valentine will play with the ACT Brumbies next season Drew Mitchell and Tai McIsaac are heading to the New South Wales Waratahs and Staniforth Ben Castle and Tamaiti Horua will play overseas. Staniforth who has 12 Test caps for Australia played his 100th Super match.

Rugby teams gather in SC for national playoffs

– More than 600 rugby players will gather in South Carolina for national playoff games this weekend. rganizers with USA Rugby say 24 teams from eastern states will compete Saturday and Sunday at the Lexington Soccer Complex. Another 24 teams from western states will compete in playoffs games in Austin Texas this weekend. Event organizer Scott Powers say South Carolina has one team left. The Hilton Head Gators will try to make it to the national championships which will be held in Colorado.
