Rugby club rocked
Henley Standard
Last week the club announced it was merging with the town’s amateur side Henley Wanderers to create one club ahead of next season. Armstead said: “Forster is in the process of agreeing new contracts with most of the players who were registered last season but he is looking to strengthen the squad where needed. “The squad will be a larger one because players from the Wanderers squad last season will also be eligible for National League rugby if required. “Former Henley Hawks coach Nigel Dudding will be the senior coach for the second team. The other Wanderers sides below this level will also play competitive rugby. ” Armstead said the lack of support was a “further disappointment” following the merger. He said: “The Henley Wanderers sides are back into the fold of Henley Rugby Club and the strength of junior rugby is such that plans are also being made to enter the National U17 competition as a first step in building towards an under 21 team.
